Description

The Big Tuna is one of our largest capacity fishing kayaks, with the unique ability to paddle as a tandem or solo kayak, making it the perfect family model. Boasting more than thirty seating configurations, it is versatile for any number of activities - fishing, hunting, recreational exploration, etc. Seat can be reversed for unique ‘FaceTime seating’, helpful when fishing with young children.

The Big Tuna is at home across a diverse variety of waterways including lakes, rivers, inshore saltwater and even offshore fishing.

The unique Tuna Tank in the center of the Big Tuna can be used as dry storage or converted into a livewell for bait.

Rod tip protectors and unique geometry on the deck make tucking rods away safely a snap, and the small day hatch on the bow is perfect for stowing snacks, keys, cameras and other small items. Comfortable Hi Lo Ergo Seat features the MOLLE system on the rear panel, allowing you to add any of our MOLLE accessories such as medical kits, water bottle holders and more. With a variety of positions available in both solo and tandem positions, you can adjust the trim of your boat as needed. Large rear tankwell offers access to in-hull storage, and the pad eyes on the stern are ready to accept a drag chain or anchor line. Two flush mount rod holders are great for trolling, and bungees on either side of the kayak make for easy paddle staging.

Whether you’re guiding your child, a significant other, a client or a friend, the Big Tuna is an ideal way to introduce anyone to the beauty of kayak fishing.

I did a lot of research into the American made kayak market. There are a lot of well made boats and a wide range in price point. I needed a tandem kayak which helped narrow it down. In the end, I chose Jackson because of their customer service reputation. That said, my Big Tuna arrive with some damage. This was obviously not the fault of JK... after all, when you ship a 100 pound, 14 foot long kayak it's bound to get bumped around a bit. I emailed the photos of the damage to JK and ended up speaking with Roxanne. She couldn't have been more professional and accommodating about the situation. I ultimately chose not to return the kayak and instead took it at a discounted price. The experience justified why I chose JK in the first place! Oh yeah, the Big Tuna... I love it! It's a well designed kayak with a lot of versatility. It is big and cumbersome, however. I would not recommend it for a solo paddler. But its size makes it a sure footed, stable vessel on the water.

Been paddling this boat for 3 years now. It is my everyday paddler, people always ask me that for some reason. I love the boat. Bought it specifically for me and my 80lb chocolate lab. So I use it mainly in the solo position always. It extremely stable, to me, very stealthy on the water, and tracks very well. The rudder is a must addition though I will say. I have paddled the Bite Angler, Cruise 12 Angler, and pedaled the CruiseFD, i will still take the BigTuna any day over them, I just love it.
Only negatives I have to say is the lack of gear track, no front hatch access and no tie down points. But with minimal mods, you make it the way YOU want it to be, which is pretty sweet. Dry bags on the deck help too keep your items protected.
Its the the perfect boat if you have little ones to take them out and enjoy, or like myself, a large dog.

My wife and I decided on the Big Tuna for our outings together. She doesn't fish by enjoys the outdoors. So we are enjoying the kayak. The great thing about this is that since we have issues paddling in sequence, I have positioned the seats so that she is facing me while we are together. It makes talking about various subjects very easy.
When I get the chance to go fishing with my buddies the conversion from a tandem kayak to a solo kayak is very simple. I do find that the kayak is a little more stable when the Big Tuna is setup as a solo.
It paddles well and track well but I did include the rudder system to help with the drift while fishing.
The Jackson Team truly followed the K.I.S.S. method on the design of the Big Tune.
